Inside the Business: Dream Car

Four decades ago, the customer had fallen in love with and bought a 1968 Camaro, the car of his dreams. But circumstances saw the ’68 Camaro leave him, crushing that dream, but not the love. That love held on, and the dream was reborn with his newest love, a black 2010 Camaro SS2.

The 2010 Camaro has proven one of the most popular reborn muscle cars to date. Chevy’s revival of it, even during the toughest of times for GM, the auto industry in general and the economy as a whole, is its own success story. Imagine if the world were perfect.

Tim Walbridge, president of 503 Motoring, in Beaverton, Ore., received the Camaro. He and his team sat with the owner and speced out all that they would do to make this car even dreamier, even beefier, even more beautiful than its original self. Man, oh, man, what they did:

EXTERIOR: 3M PPF on bumper, lamps, rockers and rear quarter panels; Suntek window tint in 35% on all glass surfaces; custom-painted front and rear Chevy badges; "heritage" Camaro grille in custom, satin black painted to match existing theme.

SUSPENSION/BRAKES: H&R Sport Spring set; Hotchkis adjustable swaybars front and rear; Brembo 6-piston 380mm Big Brake kit front and 4-piston 380mm Big Brake kit rear.

WHEELS/TIRES: Interad Forged Wheels Chicane 20x9 front and 20x11 rear, custom painted; Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 275/35ZR20 front and Pilot Sport PS2 305-35ZR20 rear; replacement 315mhz Schrader valve sensors.

PERFORMANCE: Magnuson 2300 L99 supercharger kit w/repro ECU; American Racing 1-7/8”x3” headers X-pipe w/cats; hybrid 503/Corsa exhaust with black heat coating; custom spun aluminum “burn-out” tank with power flush.

INTERIOR: All seating surfaces covered in new leather — Alcantara suede with custom logos; center console recovered in matching suede; headliner and sunroof shade covered in black Alcantara suede; complete interior sound deadening using Second Skin products; Damplifier Pro on all metal surfaces; Luxury Liner sound barrier on top of all DP surfaces; Heat Wave Pro under headliner and pillars; wire tunnels built for audio cabling.

ELECTRONICS: Passport 9500ci radar/laser defense with GPS, custom hidden install; Wrangler Electronics high-output alternator, 270amp; Kinetics battery KHC2000 12V and KHC1000 12V; ARC Audio 6pl line converter SRI and Audio Sub line converter ASL; Alpine PDX 1.1000 subwoofer amp and SWX-1243D 12" subwoofer; custom fabrication of entire trunk buildout including subwoofer enclosure, amp rack, wiring holsters and false floor; Alpine PDX 4.150 front stage amp; Morel Elate 6 2W front stage components and Elate 6 2W Rear stage components.

Oh, and about that old love, the 1968 Camaro? The word’s out that the customer has found one of them, too. The dream lives on.
