2010 Restyling Awards vehicles offer variety

Without a doubt 2009 was a challenge even to the scrappiest of restylers. But they’re a tough breed of businesspeople, indeed. Here at Restyling, we like to recognize their good work, mostly within the pages of each issue of the magazine, but also through our annual Restyling Awards feature. This year is our 12th presentation of the awards. Here, restylers put forth some of the work of which they’re particular proud. And here, we present the works that caught our judging panel’s eye. The awards honor the type of clean, coordinated restyling packages that appeal to car dealers and individual retail, or even fleet, customers. We don’t particularly look for the most extreme makeovers or show-built variety of vehicles. As always, each submission is judged on its own merits, overall interest and salability. The entries populate the categories we set: Cars, Trucks and SUVs. And, again, as in every year, we have some great examples to show.

We thank all those professional restylers who submitted examples — sometimes multiple ones — of their work. We couldn’t show all that were submitted (there were even those we had to disqualify because they were from suppliers/manufacturers ineligible by the rules to participate (even though the submissions were pretty cool vehicles). We hope that for those who didn’t get their entries to us this year that they’ll begin to compile photos and descriptions to submit for 2011’s Restyling Awards. Then you can show your peers the stuff your company is made of.

And the winners are …
The judges had a lot of fun with this year’s entries. Following, we show you some of those vehicles that represent a good sample of what restylers are doing from coast to coast. Two vehicles, though, stood out in what the judges deemed especially praiseworthy in their overall appeal — one a 2010 Camaro, the other a 2009 Ford F-350.

The First Place Award: Car goes to LDRSHIP Designs, Temecula, Calif., and Dragon Aftermarket Consulting, Carlsbad, Calif., for Nicholas Ashby's  2010 Chevrolet Camaro Type 2 SS with 6-speed manual. The entry was submitted by Michael J. Macare'. The First Place Award: Truck goes to Waldoch Crafts & Customs, Forest Lake, Minn., for its “Screaming Eagle Harley Davidson.” Jenna Smith submitted this vehicle for consideration.

The front stripes are inspired by the 1969 Camaro Stripes, and designed to fit the 2010 model. We used a Matte White Avery Dennison Graphics vinyl in a Graphtec plotter to create them. The rear blackout is inspired by the first-generation Camaro SS Blackout rear panel, and is done in Avery Dennison Graphics Matte Black vinyl, as well.
